Here is a great idea for giving old boxes a new purpose by combining usability with visual appeal.
Steps:
-
Measure the box and take a piece of wallpaper large enough to cover the whole surface, i.e. the bottom and the 4 sides. The lid will be done afterwards.
-
Remove the lid and place the box in the centre of the paper. Draw around the box with a pencil.
-
Turn the box onto its side and draw around the edges. Repeat for all four sides.
-
Add 1" and cut the outline. This extra inch will fold down inside the box.
-
Using the adhesive tape, lightly stick the box to the centre of the paper to keep it from moving.
-
Tuck the paper up around all the sides of the box, folding it along the pencil lines. For a nice finish, make sure the folds are sharp.
-
Cut each corner of the paper at an angle to meet the corner of the box as illustrated.
-
Cut in a straight line down one of the folds to meet the corner of the box, so that you remove a triangle of paper. Repeat for each corner. Cut the opposite corners on the other side of the box so that once they are folded down, all the tips point in the same direction.
-
Carefully remove the box from the paper and peel off the adhesive tape.
-
Apply spray adhesive to the bottom of the outside of the box. Centre the box on the paper using the lines as a guide and attach it firmly to the paper.
-
Start with the sides that have a flap (1). Apply spray adhesive to one side and press the paper onto the box. Take care to smooth out any creases.
-
Fold and glue the corners (2). Cut the paper in the corners so as to be able to overlap the paper into the inside of the box.
-
Finish with the other sides (3)
-
Cover the lid the same way. This time, however, do not fold the paper over into the inside of the lid because the extra thickness might prevent the box from closing properly.

For maximum visual impact, cover several boxes with different paper, but choose complementary patterns and colours!
