Though we may not know it, we're greatly influenced by the amount of light found in a given space. Lighting has come a long way in recent years. No longer just for providing light, it's now being used to create mood, showcase objects, as art and to enhance both interior and exterior spaces. Often, however, lighting is one of the last elements we consider when designing a space. Today, we're pleased to shed light on the different ways you can use lighting to bring out all the beauty of your home!

Trendy lighting

A very popular design trend right now are sleek interior spaces with few architectural details. Under or over-cabinet lighting are therefore being used to add areas of interest. Direct beams of light, from pot lights for instance, can add another dimension of detail without overpowering or crowding the space.

Lighting is also being installed inside cabinetry in order to highlight certain objects or dishware. This really adds an artistic touch to the overall decor.

Lighting as art

The lighting fixture itself has joined the ranks of art form. With its dual function of both light source and decorative element, lighting can easily become the main point of interest in a room. To achieve this look, search for a fixture that makes a very bold statement: large in scale, rich in colour, and a creative use of texture and materials; details that can really transform a space! Once you've found the perfect fixture, you can actually design the rest of the room around it. It will become a conversation piece and the center of attention.

Outdoor lighting

The trend to extend our living space outdoors has really gained in popularity in recent years. Outdoor rooms are now all the rage! Lighting the exterior of your home adds instant night-time drama and highlights the architectural details that often go unnoticed during daylight hours.

In addition to creating atmosphere, exterior lighting also makes your home safer and more secure. Be sure to change the colour of your outdoor lighting with the seasons, particularly now with the holidays right around the corner!
