Trompe l’oeil Headboard

Trompe l'œil, French for 'deceive the eye', is an art technique involving extremely realistic imagery to create an optical illusion that the depicted objects appear in three dimensions.  And while that may sound really fancy, you can do your own inexpensive and easy version by drawing out a shape, masking it out with low tack tape and then painting it in.  Here, two simple tick lines give the impression of a headboard to strengthen the impact of the bed and add grandeur. Cheap can be chic if you do it properly!
