This year, the RONA 2013 colour palette stands out thanks to a higher saturation of colours than in previous years. 2013’s interior decoration will be in duos and trios of shades that are soft, surprising and even vibrant. Amongst the key colours for the new year are Driftwood, Chartreuse, Fire Station, Nautica and Bleached green.

Warm greys: sober and whimsical

The oatmeal shades of Driftwood will pair wonderfully with both vibrant and powdery pastel colours.

Try a surprising and invigorating duo by matching oatmeal with a neon yellow shade like Chartreuse. This way, you’ll obtain a contrasting style that’s simultaneously industrial, contemporary and sober. You’ll appreciate these shades when paired with black or white furniture in the kitchen or the living room.

Red, coral and orange : warm, saturated shades in perfect harmony

Fire Station red will accent neutral tones such as grey, white or black perfectly. That having been said, in 2013 it will also be matched with vibrant shades like coral pink Sassy and the flaming orange Vitamin C.

This year, to keep red from taking over your entire decor, it will be paired equally with a second accent colour. By juxtaposing two strong colours with each other, you will soften the composition and tone down the contrast. This will make the room’s decor more uniform and captivating.

Although red works in perfect harmony with warmer shades, it does not pair with colder tones. Try to avoid greens and blues.

You’ll appreciate these shades in the washroom or the living room. Children will love them in the bedroom or playroom.

Indigo : a deep, polyvalent shade

The deep indigo shade Nautica is without a doubt one of the most intriguing shades of 2013. Although dark, this colour is perfect to accentuate a room without taking the life out of it. For an elegant result, pair it with a Chalk white ceiling, which will prevent a squashing effect on the room. For an even more refined ceiling, consider accentuating everything with a medallion or decorative mouldings, also painted white.

This year, blue is taking on a royal and effervescent air. For a more contemporary touch, opt for a single blue opposing wall or one decorated with Bold green accents.

Whether it is on an outside throw pillow or on the walls of a bedroom, you’ll appreciate this colour as much in the summer as in winter. It is ideal for an adult’s bedroom, a dining room or as an accent. In any case, this blue leaves no one indifferent!

Green, cream and pink: powdery pastels are in

These colours are a complete contrast to the saturated colours presented earlier. Opt for a warm, soft ambiance by choosing Bleached green and Cassiopeia pink. Paint your walls one of these two colours and finish the look with accessories of the other colour.

This decor could also be supplemented with pink or Breadcrumbs cream-coloured dried flowers paired with Bleached green walls. With their vintage look, these colours evoke calm and balance. You’ll love them in the office, the workshop or in your teenage daughter’s bedroom.
