Tweak your existing holiday decor to keep the mood festive for New Year’s.

Before packing away all of your holiday decorations, look at them in a new way, keeping in mind the New Year’s eve celebration. Hang a few reflective ornaments from branches, cluster them in a pretty bowl or scatter them along the hors d'oeuvres table!

Remove the tinsel from your Christmas tree and let it drip from a chandelier or lampshade. Keep the silver garland but put away the stockings hung from the fireplace mantel and instead display a large clock or a collection of smaller ones, along with a few candles.

When purchasing noise makers, party hats and banners for your party, buy a few extras. Leave the lights and a few simple ornaments on the tree and then tuck in a few party supplies to transform your Christmas tree into a New Year's Eve tree!

Buy some paper lanterns and oversized balloons in your favourite colour palette and add clusters of ribbons, beads, tassels or gauzy scarves to make them feel more special.

Finally, don't forget the dining or buffet table. Who needs a proper floral centrepiece when you can put something together with oversized fake blooms, feathers and re-imagined Christmas decorations?
