To find your way around your garage, follow these five easy steps for effective organizing. It’ll save you a ton of time when looking for your stuff.
Step 1: Sort your items
Are you finding things that shouldn’t be in the garage? Can you store them in a more appropriate place? Sort through all of your items: the things you haven’t used in over a year are often useless. Get rid of cumbersome items that are no longer used and reclaim your garage!
Step 2: Set your priorities
Group together the things you’ll be keeping in your garage by annual and seasonal items, those used once in awhile, often or daily, emergency items, etc. Store them by category—you’ll never have to spend a lot of time searching.
Step 3: Choose where to store them
Be logical: store annual and seasonal items in harder to reach places and those you use more often, within arm’s reach. Emergency items should always be visible and stored near the door to the house.
Step 4: Choose the type of storage
Once you’ve finished sorting, consider which storage accessories you’ll need. Do you want shelves or cabinets? What size? Choose based on your storage space and on the style of your home.
Step 5: Put things away!
Now that you’ve sorted and categorized your things and have installed your storage accessories, all you have to do is put things away in their rightful place and enjoy your new, uncluttered space!
