The first step to installing a mirror is to measure carefully. To determine its position, make sure your face is centred in the mirror when you look into it.

Then determine where to position the base of the mirror. If it is to be installed over a shelf or sink, make sure they are levelled and adjust the mirror accordingly. Have someone hold the mirror in the right spot, and make a pencil mark on each side of it. Underneath the mirror, trace a line and indicate in pencil where to install the wall anchors.

The framing around the mirror will determine the type of wall anchor you use. But be careful: the screws that come in the package are not always suitable for hanging mirrors on things like drywall or doors. In such cases, use expansion anchors or special fasteners. The heavier the mirror, the bigger the anchors should be.

Mirrors are a great way to add radiance and character to your room. In your bedroom, for example, hang a vertical mirror in the horizontal position over your bed to make a one-of-a-kind, stylish headboard.
