Move over David Furnish, its time for other Canadians who don’t have Elton John as their regal partner to enjoy a bit of escapist grandeur at home…

If you’re looking for a home style that’s exciting and escapist then why not add some classic elegance to create a style that’s grand and very decorated? Look up ‘grandeur’ in the dictionary and you’ll find that it’s all about splendor and impressiveness (especially where appearance or style are concerned) and enjoying a high rank or social importance.  So this style is all about showing off!

Creating illusions of grandeur at home starts with a main feature like a bold wall covering, curtain fabric or, in this case, a curvaceous focal point furniture piece.  This is further established using colour and decorative detailing to reinforce the characteristics of that feature.  The classic European lines of this settee and the coordinating wall mirror are seen at their best by putting them against a plain background so that one can really enjoy each cut and curve and appreciate the shape, free from the distraction of busy wall paper or upholstery fabrics.  This pattern free approach also helps to create a much more modern feel.

Further embellishments come by adding up the smaller details like the deep buttoning on the upholstery, having lavish bunches of fresh flowers, and extra detailing like the ribbons we added to plain lampshades to colour co-ordinate them with vases, lamps and cushions.  The look is vintage without being too old fashioned, spectacular without being vulgar and rich without being too flashy…
