With the London 2012 Olympics taking place as we speak, there’s no better time to be inspired by the UK’s capital city to create a home that’s a true gold medal winner!
There are many iconic elements that pave the way to London style. The trick is not to overdo it or your home will end up looking like a British gift shop. Use art featuring red telephone boxes, Big Ben, and London street signs, install a postage stamp rug featuring her Majesty The Queen or track down London Underground signs and timetables. And don’t forget to ‘keep calm and carry on…’
The Union Jack flag really is one of the most attractive flags around so it’s no surprise to find that it’s made its way onto just about everything from cushions to iPhone cases. We like our flags to be tasteful, so why not make a huge statement with a Union Jack chesterfield sofa or hang a real flag framed for posterity as a statement artwork? Or you could even get out the masking tape and paint a flag on one wall as a feature. Big flag—low cost!
Wall decals are great way to add temporary decor and of course you can peel them off with ease when you decide to change your room’s style. Search around for iconic London skylines with Tower Bridge, The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, and the ‘Gherkin’. We have these in our Toronto kitchen as a backsplash pattern and they look amazing.
