A certification from LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Canada certifies that a building is constructed according to standards established by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC). Its location, construction, and water and energy management systems among others are evaluated according to rigorous ecological standards before the construction is certified.

Renovations do not qualify for a LEED Canada certification. However, for those of you who wish to make your home more ecological, the CaGBC Website has an extensive range of useful information. Several municipalities also have programs promoting energyconservation or can help their residents find the appropriate local resources. Call your city hall to find out more. For even more information, the U.S. Green Building Council and the American Society of Interior Designers also provide helpful tips and guidelines when renovating to make your home more ecological.
