I have a small wooden pergola and I don’t know what kind of base I should choose to have a harmonious decor. What are my options for durable, eco-conscious flooring?

When it comes to outdoor flooring for a deck, a patio or a porch, there are many green options, at a reasonable cost, to choose from. Eco-flooring will allow you to have your desired decor as well as  take pride in knowing that your home is built with the lowest possible impact on the environment.

Wood

Snapping deck tiles are easy to install and can also be used on top of existing flooring, such as a patio or balcony. They come in sustainable materials like eucalyptus or teak.

Remember to look for wood certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) to be sure that the wood has been harvested responsibly.

Concrete

As a highly durable material with low environmental impact, concrete is a great flooring material for sustainable living and comes in many styles and colours. You may even want to find ways of recycling old, broken-up concrete from a demolition project, which will save it from ending up in a landfill and create a unique decor.

Rubber

Many people aren't aware of all the benefits of this material. Tiles made from recycled rubber are excellent for drainage and slip resistance, and they come in a surprising array of styles and sizes.

Rubber flooring is perfect to add the final touch to a great outdoor layout.

Composite Decking

Made from recycled materials, composite decking looks like real wood. It will never need to be stained or painted as it preserves its appearance for many years. It is a good investment due to its excellent price to durability value.
